Amphoe Si Sawat is one of
the famous districts in Kanchanaburi. Its reputation derives
from the extensive and long stretched Si Nakharin Dam. The dam
soes not only serve as diet and electricity source, but also
as a tourist attraction. Amid the natural surrounding, here
you can have splendid scernery at almost every bend of the river.
Moreover, there are some most famous waterfall in Thailand in
this district too: the Erawan waterfall, the Huay Maekamin waterfall,
for example.

However, in order to have a good trip in Amphoe Si Sawat,
you should travel by car. This is because each site is quite
far from one another. From the Kan city, drive on the highway
323, and ther continue on the highway 3199( Ladya-Si Sawat area)
for about 62 kilometers. You can find the entrace to Si Nakharin
Dam on your left. If you are interested in rafting activity,
just turn right to the route paralleling the lake. Although
the path is some what sinding, the scenery you will get proves
to be worthwhile. When you reach the Tagraden junction, turn
right for about 20 kilometes to MaeLamun raft pier. Then you
can reach amphoe Si Sawat by boarding the large ferry for motor
vehicles.
This famous seven floor waterfall is located within the Erawan
National Park. It is considered one of the very first waterfall
know in Kanchanaburi, yet still gain a lot of tourist interests
even nowadays. The seven floor of the limeclifff waterfall provide
different exquisite scenery, so tourists from everywhere come
and visit here throughout the year.

From the Kan city, go to the Kangsean intersection and take
the highway 3199 for about 62 kilometers. Take a left turn pass
the Si Nakharin Dam security booth and cross the Kwae Yai river.
Turn left pass the dam market and the National Park checkpoint
into the park. Leave your car at the tourist service center.
Erawan is always said to be the most attractive waterfall in
Kanchanaburi. The water runs from thee TaMonglai mountain, passing
throughthe limestone cliffes. The path to the vase of the waterfall
is not at all difficult. Each floor has a unique magic, but
all are shady and cool. From the forth floor, the pathway will
steepen, so most people often pause at the lower levels. The
seventh floor is approximately 400 meters above the sea level,
and is really beautiful.
The
nature trail here is quite comfortable and is not very long.
Its total length is about 1,060 meters, raking about half an
hour. Starting from the second floor of the waterfall through
the forest, you will see many different kinds of trees and birds.
The resting places, tenting lawn and restaurant services are
also close at hand.
Built across the Kwae Yai River near Ban Chaonen, Tambol Tha
Gradan, Amphoe Si Sawat, this dam was established since 1978.
It is a multipurpose dam; producing electricity, providing water
for agriculture, diminishing the floods around Klong River,
and increasing fishing sources. The major by-product of the
dam is tourism, for this dam is very beautiful no matter you
look from the ridge of the dam, or from the boat, down on the
lake below.
The ridge of the dam is in Ban Chaonen, Tambol Tha Gradan, Amphoe
Si Sawat, about 70 kilometers from the Kan city.

This is a very good view spot where you can see the curve of
the lake, and the panoramic scenery of the green forest mountains.
The ridge of the dam can be reached by car. There are restrooms,
and stores at the end of the ridge.
The time Memorial Park
This park was established in the occasion that the Queen Mother
has reached the age of 90. Her quotation “ Time is a valuable
thing.” Is therefore adapted into a big sundial in the
middle of the park.
On the boat along the lake
There are Kwae Yai boat services around the lake. For fishing
lovers, the resorts will provide you with the small boat service,
so you can find the best fishing sites on your own.
This attraction is located within the Kuang Si Nakharin National
Park, which is the park that rose after the establishment of
the dam. The national Park is so large that it covers Amphoe
Saiyok and Amphoe Si Sawat. On the north, it adjoins the ThoongYai
Wildlife Sanctuary, so the forest here is really abundant. Moreover,
the Kuang Si Nakharin Reservoir is the passway of th Kwae Yai
River and the Huay KhaKhang River too.
Take the highway 3199 (Kanchanaburi Erawan). When you reach
the Si Nakarin Dam, pass the cave called Tham Prathat to the
Huay MaeKamin Waterfall for about 104 kilometers.
You can also reach there by driving on the route Erawan-Si Sawat
and board the large ferry for motor vehicles at Mae Lamun. Drive
for 4 kilometer and you will be at Amphoe Si Sawat. Board the
ferry once again, and there you are at the Huay MaeKamin Waterfall
The Huay MaeKamin Waterfall
This is another waterfall in Kanchanaburi that is popular for
a long time. The water comes from many mountains, originating
a brook called Huay MaeKamin, and the seven floors of waterfalls,
before flowing out to the Kuang Si Nakharin Reservoir.

The whole distance to the waterfalls is 2,270 meterts. The
path is quite smooth, and is will take about 2 hours to visit
all the seven floors. The most gorgeous one is the fourth floor,
so make sure you do not miss it.
The nature trail
There are two trails you can choose, the first one is about
3.5 kilometers long, through the wilderness of the jungle to
the fourth and the sixth floors of the waterfall where you can
see the scenery over the lak of Si Nakharin Dam.
The second trail about 2.5 kilometers long will bring you
through the various sorts of forests and will terminate at the
fourth floor of the waterfall. Along the trail are many kinds
of plants and wildbirds, and both trails take about one hour.
For tourists who wate to stay overnight at Kuang Si Nakharin
National Park, there are resthouses, tenting lawn, and restaurants
provided.
Whereas the Erawan and the Kuang Si Nakharin National Park have
the beautiful seven floor waterfalls, the Chaloem Rattanakosin
National Park offers you different attractions with its two
t caves; Tham ThanLoyYai, and Tham ThanLodNoi
From Kanchanaburi city heading KaengSean Junction, tak the highway
3199 ( Kanchaburi-Ladya) for abort 20 kilometers. Turn right
at the junction to the highway 3086 (Ladya-NongPrue), passing
Amphoe Bo Ploi into Amphoe Nong Prue. When you pass the Nong
Prue market, you will see a signpost situated in Tambol Khao
Jode, Amphoe Si Sawat, about 100 kilometers from the Kan city.
Tham Than Lod Noi
The name of this site means the cave where a small brook runs
through. When you get to the National Park office and set off
to the cave, you will have to cross a small wooden bridge over
the KraProi brook which runs out from the cave. This 25 meters
high cave is about 300 meters long and is quite wide. The air
inside is cool and the views of the stone wall when catching
lamp lights are extremely vivid and beautiful.
Tham Than Lod Yai
About 2 kilometers from Tham Than Lod Noi, you will find Tham
Than Lod Yai. It has a unique characteristic because there is
a large cavity through the mountain, occurred naturally by wind
and rain. The cave inside is cool, airy and bright. In addition,
this cave proves to be even more interesting Because it was
once the burying ground of the ancient people, and a lot of
skeletons were found inside this cave.
The Trai Trung Waterfall
About 1.5 kilometers far from Tham Than Lad Noi, this three
floor waterfall is full with water all year. The best views
are said to be seen on the third floor, amid the green and abundant
environment.
The ThanNgoen Waterfall
This waterfall is about 1.5 kilometers from the park office.
It is 3 level high, but is not very famous for tourists as the
Trai Trung Waterfall.
For travellers who wat to spend the night here, there are
restiong places, tenting lawn, and restaurants available as
